Oswaldo Payá dies tragically
July 23, 2012
One of the most important opponents of the Cuban regime and the chairman of the Christian Liberation Movement, Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas, has been killed in a car accident at the age of 60. In 2002, Oswaldo Payá was one of the founders of the Varela project, a petition calling for legislative changes in Cuba that was signed by tens of thousands of Cubans. Václav Havel knew Oswaldo Payá personally and twice nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
