The Havel’s Place in Venice project was realised thanks to the efforts of the honorary consul of the Czech Republic in Vienna, Giorgio Boatto, the Irish founder of Art for Amnesty, Bill Shipsey and Michael Jorgensen, in cooperation with the Venice International University, San Servolo, the Vacláv Havel Library and the Czech Embassy in Rome. Among those who attended the launch in Vienna were the Czech ambassador to Italy, Petr Buriánek, and the honorary consul of the Czech Republic in Venice, Giorgio Boatto.

The Czech Fate – essay

„I don’t believe in that Fate at all and I think that in the first instance we are engineers of our own fate… After all, what happened did not happen because we are Czechs and Czechs always have to suffer at the hands of their neighbours (because that is their “Czech Fate”), but for quite different , more specific reasons.“
