Women’s Housing Seminar - final event

We invite you to talk with a journalist and dissident Petruška Šustrová about the activity of women in dissent. It will take place on Wednesday, 27th January at 17:30 in the Marcus Gallery Café, Úvoz 24, Brno.
(stop of trolleybuses No. 25 and 26, Tvrdého, then walk a few meters downhill).
The discussion takes place at the occasion of exhibition Women's Housing Seminar about the forms of women’s resistance in the period of normalisation. The exhibition can be visited till the end of January 2010.
Petruška Šustrová is a Czech dissident, translator and journalist. For political reasons, she did not complete her studies at the Philosophical Faculty of the Charles University. In 1969 she was arrested and subsequently sentenced to two years in prison for opposition activities in the Revolutionary Youth Movement, whose members included also Jaroslav Bašta, Ivan Dejmal, Jan Frolík and Petr Uhl. In 1976 she signed the Declaration of Charter 77. In 1979, she became a member of the Committee for the Defence of the Unjustly Prosecuted. In 1985, she was one of three spokesmen of Charter 77. From 1985, she worked in editorial office of Central Europe samizdat revue. In the years 1990-1992 she worked as a federal Deputy Minister of Interior. She works as a journalist and translator from English and Polish. In October 2008, the Senate elected her a member of the Council of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes.
