Professor Helena Illnerová, a leading Czech physiologist and biochemist and a former chairwoman of the Czech Academy of Sciences, will present Čas pro světlo (Time for Light) (Portál, 2014), a new book-long interview with her conducted by her colleague Professor Pavel Kovář.

The interview maps her life from her family background to her scientific and public work. It touches on questions related to science and education in Czech society but also explores issues of value, upbringing and respect for tradition. It is a testimony to the strength of character of a woman who despite numerous difficulties has enjoyed a full and successful personal and professional life. She became an internationally respected scientist without accepting the communist regime or giving up on motherhood and family life. The wisdom and kindness emanated by the text are an inspiration to all who are aware of their responsibility for the world and society in which they live.

Rudolf Zahradník, a physical chemist and former chairman of the Czech Academy of Sciences, will be special guest, while the evening will be hosted by Martin Bedřich, editor-in-chief of the Portál publishing house.

In cooperation with the Portál publishing house.
