On the Life and Death of Liu Xiaobo

The latest edition of a series of evenings exploring contemporary China will focus on Liu Xiaobo, the recently deceased leading Chinese intellectual and Nobel Peace Prize recipient. It will feature readings from Liu’s work, including poems and essays, as well as of excerpts from noteworthy studies of his contribution to Chinese literature, philosophy, society and politics.

The evening will be hosted by Olga Lomová and Martin Hála from the Sinopsis project.

„It’s as though I were constantly expecting someone to visit. But who? A strange and beautiful woman who admires me?… I have only one explanation: I’m constantly preparing for the last judgment, for the highest court from which nothing can be hidden… I’m obviously assuming that the supreme judge is a stickler like me.“
