Ongoing Events

If not stated otherwise, all events are held at Montmartre Gallery (7 Řetězová, Prague 1).

Thematic exhibitions

We exhibit photographs, for example, from the pre-November era and from the dissent era, the art of people from Havel’s circle. Our exhibitions are related to certain historical dates or generally to important events that simply should not be forgotten.

Theatre performances

Montmartre Gallery sometimes serves as a theatre stage. There have been shows performed by the Czechoslovak Marionette Theatre, the Disman Radio Ensemble, and the Belarus Free Theatre.

Discussions and conferences

At least twice a year, we hold discussions and small conferences linked to Václav Havel’s life and thinking. We also offer our premises to the so called “Amálie”, a discussion series named after a villa, belonging to the forest district of Lány where President Václav Havel held discussion meetings focused on various areas of social, political and cultural life. Altogether 77 meetings were held there under his presidency. This tradition has been revived in the Václav Havel Library by Michal Kocáb, who currently holds these friendly meetings.

Letters to Olga – essays written in prison, letter

„So-called contradictions between different schools of thought do not bother me in the least, and it doesn’t seem at all perverse to conduct oneself quite “situationally” in that regard. If a certain term, or terminology or theory seems apt in a given situation or context, I have no compunctions whatsoever about exploiting it to the full ( and I don’t mind if it makes me seem like an epigone). At the same time, however, I don’t feel the least bit bound by any “allegiance”.“
